The 6th Mediterranean Yacht Show (MEDYS), which was once again organised by the Greek Yachting Association (GYA) in the wonderful port of Nafplion, came to a close on Wednesday 8 May. The main objective of the event was to show and promote the exceptional range of crewed yachts available for charter in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean to an audience of international brokers.
This year, 102 crewed charter yachts registered for the MEDYS, totalling a cumulative length of over 3 kilometres and making it yet again the largest international event of its kind in terms of participating yachts and overall length of boats.
The first day of the Yacht Show was celebrated in style at the Palamidi Fortress where guests were invited to a welcome reception, during which the musical quartet Fortissimo undoubtedly stole the show. Addressing the attendees, Mr. Michael Skoulikidis, President of the Greek Yachting Association, made reference to the Greek yachting tourism’s rise in a highly demanding and competitive international market. In addition, he emphasised the exponential growth of MEDYS, which in just a few years has evolved into the largest (in terms of registration numbers) international exhibition of professional crewed yachts.
· 102 registered yachts.
· More than 450 industry professionals.
· 34 exhibition stands with yachting-related services & products.
Amongst the companies participating in the show were Burgess, Camper & Nicholsons International, Edmiston, Fraser Yachts, Yachting Partners International, CharterWorld, CSO Yachts, IYC, Northrop & Johnson, TWW Yachts, Yachtzoo, Luxury Charter Group and West Nautical. Representatives of the Worldwide Yachting Association (MYBA) also attended MEDYS.
The highly anticipated Chef’s Competition took place within the context of the show and the judging panel comprised of the 2 Michelin star Chef of the Spondi restaurant Aggelos Lantos, as well as Chef Thanos Stasinos of the restaurants Nikkei (Athens), Pacific (Monte Carlo) and the Ritz Carlton (Valencia).
MEDYS is organised by the GYA with the support of the Municipality of Nafplion, under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Tourism. Given the growing and complicated needs of organising such a show, a successful outcome would not be possible without the direct and continuous support of the services of the Municipality of Nafplion. MEDYS also has the support of the Peloponnese Region.
